Yes, to many, to the same people that want to differentiate themselves from
Pentecostalists, those who walk in the Word of Faith, etc.

Calling a person a “Christian” in the early days was also a pejorative
term.
Why, are or were these all considered derisive terms?

Because people who walk in the flesh, according to the flesh want to isolate
or distance themselves from those who walk in the spirit?

Are their frauds within all those names?
Yes, most certainly as the words take on a generic meaning to carnal people.
Same as the word ‘God’.

The name Christian used to describe people who walk as Christ did, were
followers of Christ, people filled with the Holy Ghost, with evidences of the
in filling.

It tis a shame that so many carnal people here attempt to deride all others.
I am speaking to those that act religious and say that they believe in Jesus
Christ.

believe, and tremble.” (Jas 2:19, KJV)

Charismatic is a pejorative because the bobbleheads that walk around
with all the charisma and glitter have done nothing to earn their
positions of power it puts them in. I guess it means it is the opposite
of a meritocracy.

========================
On Wed, 22 May 2024 20:32:19 -0700,
========================
Charismatic is an epithet often applied to Christians who do claim to
have had extraordinary revelations and/or gifts of the Holy Spirit,
and would be pejorative to those Christians who believe that the gifts
of the Holy Spirit have ceased to be given.
Of which there is nothing scriptural to support that.
Everything in the Bible (outside of
pretending like we're living under the
Old Testament covenants, or the early
days of the church, such as was the case
in Acts, Corinthians, and Galatians),
demonstrates that the sign gifts were to
validate the gospel during the early
days of the church, then ceased.
Based on your preamble which is erroneous and of carnal reasoning there is
not one reason to reply to the rest of your post other than to repeat the
words of the Lord Jesus Christ, and before I do, it pains my heart to see you
ignore everything that has been spoken to you from the Lord in previous
conversations on this topic and from my understanding as well. However, here
is what Jesus said, very clearly.

Jhn 5:19-27 (KJV)

19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you,
The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what
things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself
doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them;even so the Son
quickeneth whom he will.

22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the
Son:

23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He
that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on
him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into
condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the
dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

26For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have
life in himself;

27And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the
Son of man.

Later as he was preparing to go, he said this.

Jhn 14:12-13 (KJV)

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I
do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go
unto my Father.

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father
may be glorified in the Son.

Of course all this requires Faith in Him, V12 yet as anyone can see, there is
no limitation of any type other than Faith available across the ages. To
confess otherwise is to deny His Word.
Jesus' healings and other miracles
served the purpose of validating His
ministry as coming from God, and of
fulfilling the Old Testament Scriptures
that predicted the Messiah would heal
the sick, etc. For example, Jesus used
these miracles to bolster the faith of
John the Baptist, by confirming that He
“And when John had heard in prison about
the works of Christ, he sent two of his
disciples and said to Him, “Are You the
Coming One, or do we look for another?”
Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and
tell John the things which you hear and
see: The blind see and the lame walk;
the lepers are cleansed and the deaf
hear; the dead are raised up and the
poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended
because of Me.”” (Matthew 11:2–6, NKJV)
This is an allusion to Isaiah 35:5
“Then the eyes of the blind shall be
opened, And the ears of the deaf shall
be unstopped. Then the lame shall leap
like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb
sing. For waters shall burst forth in
the wilderness, And streams in the
desert.” (Isaiah 35:5–6, NKJV)
Thus, Jesus confirmed to John and
everyone else that He was the prophesied
Messiah, through signs and wonders like
healing the sick, etc. The real healing
Jesus offers people today, is spiritual
healing. He raises them from the dead
spiritually, gives them spiritual sight,
and gives them spiritual life and
wellness (Ephesians 2:1-2, etc.).
Hebrews concurs that the signs and
“For if the word spoken through angels
proved steadfast, and every
transgression and disobedience received
a just reward, how shall we escape if we
neglect so great a salvation, which at
the first began to be spoken by the
Lord, and was confirmed to us by those
who heard Him, God also bearing witness
both with signs and wonders, with
various miracles, and gifts of the Holy
Spirit, according to His own will?”
(Hebrews 2:2–4, NKJV)
The miracles, healings, and sign gifts
were given to validate the gospel
message. Hebrews tells us the message
"was confirmed" (past tense), by those
signs. After the confirming signs and
wonders God gave in the early days of
the church, sign gifts evidently began
to cease.
For example, in the New Testament, we
see a shift in the way God works among
His people. Sign gifts like tongues and
healings aren't mentioned in the list of
gifts, after Corinthians. Ephesians,
Romans and Peter do not mention them
among the gifts.
Further, while mentioning the first-hand
experience believers in the early days
of the church had with the sign gifts in
books like Corinthians and Galatians,
they are not mentioned in any epistles
after that. The writer of Hebrews
informs them about the confirming signs
and wonders, as if they had no
first-hand knowledge of them.
The lack of sign gifts becomes
especially evident towards the end of
Paul's ministry, in the experiences of
several believers, including
Epaphroditus, Timothy, and Trophimus,
who were not miraculously healed,
despite being close associates of Paul.
Let's consider Epaphroditus first, as
mentioned in Philippians 2:25-27. He was
near death, not because of sin or lack
of faith, but due to his hard work for
Christ. Interestingly, Paul does not
mention any miraculous healing; instead,
he speaks of God's mercy on Epaphroditus
and also on himself, preventing sorrow
upon sorrow. This suggests that healing
was not a guaranteed outcome, even for
those in the inner circle of an apostle.
Then, there's Timothy in 1 Timothy 5:23.
Paul advises him to use a little wine
for his stomach and frequent ailments.
If miraculous healings were still
prevalent, Paul might have simply
instructed Timothy to seek such a
healing. Instead, he recommends a
practical, medicinal approach.
Regarding Trophimus, mentioned in 2
Timothy 4:20, Paul left him sick in
Miletus. Again, this is a clear
indication that the miraculous gifts,
like healing, were not always at play,
even among those who were deeply
committed and connected to the apostolic
ministry.
Adding to this, Paul himself had a
'thorn in the flesh' (2 Corinthians
12:7-9), for which he prayed three times
to be healed. Yet, the Lord's response
was, "My grace is sufficient for you,
for my power is made perfect in
weakness." This shows that even Paul,
with his close relationship with the
Lord, was not always granted the healing
he sought. Instead, he was given grace
to endure his affliction, demonstrating
that God's power and presence are not
solely evidenced through miraculous
signs.
When we come to 1 John, we see a
different set of criteria for discerning
the spirits. Noticeably absent from
these, are supernatural signs like
healing or speaking in tongues. This
absence underscores that the primary
markers for discerning who belongs to
God are not miraculous gifts but rather
a transformed life that aligns with the
teachings of Christ and the apostles.
It's about the confession of Christ's
incarnation (1 John 4:2-3), obedience to
God's commands (1 John 2:3-6; 5:2-3),
love for fellow believers (1 John 3:10,
14; 4:7-8, 20-21), righteous living (1
John 2:29; 3:7-10), belief in Jesus as
the Christ (1 John 5:1), overcoming the
world (1 John 5:4-5), pursuit of purity
(1 John 1:8-10; 3:3), rejection of
worldly ideologies (1 John 4:5a),
non-acceptance by the world (1 John
4:5b), and adherence to apostolic
teaching (1 John 4:6).
This shift from emphasizing miraculous
signs to focusing on character
transformation and doctrinal fidelity
aligns with the broader narrative of the
New Testament. It shows a maturing in
the understanding and practice of faith,
moving from the foundational
establishment of the church in signs and
wonders to a deeper, more sustainable
faith rooted in Christ-like character
and adherence to the truth of the
gospel.
So, in the context of discerning
spirits, it's not about looking for
miraculous signs, or the ability to
drink poison or handle serpents without
suffering harm, but rather examining the
fruits of one's life and doctrine
against the clear teachings of
Scripture. This provides a more solid,
reliable foundation for discerning who
truly belongs to God and who does not,
ensuring that our faith and practice are
deeply anchored in the truth of God's
Word.
Then, there's the self-evident fact that
those who claim to have sign gifts
today, do not have the same experience
as those who healed in Bible times. For
example, consider the miraculous
"Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him,
kneeling down to Him and saying to Him,
"If You are willing, You can make me
clean." Then Jesus, moved with
compassion, stretched out His hand and
touched him, and said to him, "I am
willing; be cleansed." As soon as He had
spoken, immediately the leprosy left
him, and he was cleansed. And He
strictly warned him and sent him away at
once, and said to him, "See that you say
nothing to anyone; but go your way, show
yourself to the priest, and offer for
your cleansing those things which Moses
commanded, as a testimony to them."
However, he went out and began to
proclaim it freely, and to spread the
matter, so that Jesus could no longer
openly enter the city, but was outside
in deserted places; and they came to Him
from every direction." (Mark 1:40-45,
NKJV)
Notice here, that when even a single
person experiences supernatural healing
(such as instantly being cured of
leprosy), and tells others about it, it
is no longer possible for the person who
healed him to travel openly, without
being thronged by the masses.
This, to me, offers compelling,
incontrovertible proof that people who
claim to have the gift of healing,
today, are liars, con-artists, and at
best self-deluded. If they had actually
done such things, they wouldn't even be
able to go out in public and travel
freely because of the masses that would
throng them.
